In January 2017, the idea of establishing non-profit private university of higher learning to foster academic excellence came about when a number of professors from abroad and local universities and other Somali intellectuals met in Mogadishu to discuss the possibilities of continuing quality of higher education for some faculties those are important for the Somali country.

However, the group decided to form a non-profit private institution for quality of higher education under the name of ‘Sombridge University’. The aim of that project was to provide opportunities to the Somali Poor students to complete their higher educational course.
